Heather and I worked toge ther on last week 's status email. This week, I'll try to get it out closer to Saturday evening (which is when I review the week).

Hello fellow Freedom lovers!

This is David's wife, Heather. Some of you may have heard David say in one of his many classes, something along the lines of ... " Classes will be "free as in speech" but please give a gift of treasure, talent, and/or time. And if you're not able, please take what you need." And with that, I'd like to share with you how we've spent our treasure, talent, and time over this past week.

TREASURE : One of David's consulting customers paid a bill, so we are investing another $800 in SFS. This is money that can be spent on gear and things and a good start toward our next arbitrary funding goal of $10K. If you want to throw some money in the pot, you can do so directly at any of the classes, or you can PayPal it to Dav id at DLWillson@The Geek.NU with an appropriate note.

TIME: We spent a great deal of time on/with the family which didn't allot for much time to spare for SFS... David is trying to find time to start a blog so he will have a place to pontificate, and a website so folks curious about us have a place to land and learn whatever there is to be known. (little at present, but it will grow)

TALENT (AND CALL TO ACTION!): The Request Tracker class on April 27th is in serious jeopardy. At present, we only have one learner and his preferred stack is pretty unusual. If we don't get at least a few more, the class will have to be canceled!

Do you have an interest in RT? How about JIRA? Do you have another idea that might fill up better? I'm interested in offering sessions that will attract at least 6 learners.

To build on the idea from last week... a GEEKEND in the mountains~

(from David)

" I look at the Ford shuttle buses on the highway as I drive to work and I picture them lettered with "Software Freedom ... something ... Sojourners? Sabbatical?" How about "Software Freedom School-bus"? I picture them loaded with learners, heading off into the mountains for a Linux immersion geek-end.

"I think seats on that bus should cost around $1000 each, or $1200 each, with one seat reserved for a particularly avid pupil who has passion, but not the means to pay for a seat. What do you think? "

As we are building our dream, Software Freedom School, I want to thank each of you for your support and for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful group of people. May we all continue to be a community connected by our heads (geek), hearts (passion for freedom), and hands (teaching the world about free software).

Here's to free as in FREEDOM!
