Senior Linux Engineer

Provide thought leadership and end-of-the-road operational support for a Vi=
aWest=E2=80=99s Managed Linux Services.

Primary Duties:

Deliver positive customer outcomes and world-class customer service
Responsible for provisioning and administration of Linux-based systems
Assist Sales Engineering with complex customer solution designs
Partner with the ViaWest engineering team to further Linux automation, moni=
toring and configuration management toolsets
Act as an escalation point for service events that require advanced sysadmi=
n troubleshooting
Execute controlled changes in a mission critical service provider cloud env=
ironment
Provision and decommission customer cloud and managed operating system serv=
ices
Mentor tier-2 staff
Maintain the security of ViaWest and customer systems per security practice=
s.
Review and act upon infrastructure capacity and performance trends=C2=A0

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor=E2=80=99s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent exper=
ience=C2=A0
Five years of experience in a=C2=A0Linux technical support and/or engineeri=
ng role, preferably with an IT service provider
Flexible work schedule, able to work off-peak business hours shifts (weekda=
y nights and/or weekends) and on-call rotation
Writing and executing complex change plans
Extensive experience supporting Linux in VMware cloud-based IT environments

Challenges:

Ability to work in a fast paced, SLA-bound, 24x7 service provider environme=
nt
Practical understanding of the large breadth of infrastructure technologies=
 under support
Effectively prioritize reactive and proactive activities
Department activities are highly visible and paramount to customer satisfac=
tion

Knowledge / Skill / Ability:

Required:

World-class customer service skills
Extensive Linux systems administration (CentOS, Ubuntu)
Strong scripting experience in one area (Bash, Java, Python, Ruby)
Experience with enterprise storage concepts (e.g. =E2=80=93 NAS/SAN)=C2=A0
VMware vSphere 5.x
Self-starter with a history of excellent communication and time management =
skills
Ability to quickly assess problems and execute a plan of action
Strong leadership and communication skills (oral and written) required.

Preferred / Desirable:

Experience with a major automation platform such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible
Experience with Cisco UCS a plus
Operating within a compliant environment a plus (HIPAA HITECH / PCI)
Awareness of ITIL v3
Knowledge of Openstack a plus
Experience with Redhat clustering
Redhat Certified Systems Administrator
