Notes : They are looking for candidates who are fresh out of college, zero professional experience (internship would be a plus). Ideally would like some solid Linux command line skills with Python or Ruby scripting experience. They realize most of this experience will come from school projects and side work. Candidates that have development backgrounds or want to be developers will not be a fit. We should target candidates with CIS degrees and even candidates out of tech schools. There are a lot of strong personalities on this team, which means soft skills will be key. Aptitude is going to be huge here”

Charter Communications 

Jr. DevOps Engineer 

Greenwood Village, Colorado 

Essential Job Functions : 

The junior cloud solutions developer will work with the Charter Cloud Solutions team to automate the deployment, configuration, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of Charter Communications’ software applications in the cloud, in hybrid AWS and OpenStack environment. This is a true DevOps position, requiring a mix of both automation (leveraging Python, Ruby, or Go) and manual system and cloud administration. This position provides exposure both to advanced cloud deployments as well as containers leveraging Docker and Kubernetes. 



An ideal candidate will have less than 2 years of experience in the areas of scripting, and system administration. 



Additional Job Details: 

1. Automates operations tasks including deployment, configuration, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of Charter application stacks. 

2. Performs some manual system administration tasks, where appropriate or required. 

3. Leverages knowledge of IaaS and PaaS cloud concepts, including virtualization, software defined networking (AWS VPC or other), and containers. 

4. Assist senior team members to complete DevOps tasks on a timely basis. 

5. Helps to test the results of automation or manual tasks of the rest of the team. 

6. Other tasks and duties as assigned, relating to DevOps, automation, and system administration. 



Job Requirements: 

1. AWS console use (EC2, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, S3, Route53, CloudWatch, SNS, SQS) 

2. Jenkins use and basic configuration 

3. Python or Ruby scripting ability 

4. Proficient use of Linux command line 

5. Basic TCP/IP networking 

6. Good communicator and team player 



Desired Qualifications: 

1. AWS command line or AWS SDK/API use 

2. Expert Jenkins admin and use of Jenkins REST API 

3. Go programming 

4. Ability to manage software stacks using Netflix Asgard and/or Asgard REST API 

5. Git command-line proficiency 

6. VMWare administration and day-to-day use 

7. Advanced TCP/IP networking 

8. Containerization of applications and services using, for example, Docker
